Wisdom

Updated: Jan 5, 2022

The student of history was seeing a connection.

He was beginning to understand the most consistent human pattern.

Mankind would prosper for awhile and then falter -

there was a definite cycle that humans failed to alter.

It is said that “pride goeth before the fall”,

which decline may lead to learning that we don’t know much at all.

Socrates said that true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing,

an acknowledgement that humility is the first step to real understanding.

Often, when a person gains knowledge, he believes he has also gained wisdom -

but wisdom comes only through observation, experience and comprehension.

Wisdom comes after knowledge has graced us and opened the door

to that which enlightens and prompts action that improves our character.

All the treasures of the world are not to be compared to wisdom.

It is wisdom that guides us to all that is truly valuable and everlasting.

Only one course of action will lead to wisdom that is long-lasting -

trusting in God will lead us to the divine knowledge that He is granting.

When we turn from God and rely on our own judgement and intelligence,

we begin to slip into a world of detrimental self-aggrandizement.

When we search for wisdom in only worldly places,

we will end up without true happiness or eternal progress.

We will be left devoid of what is truly important,

when we give too much credit to our own intellect.

So when we think we have figured what it is all about,

if it is not according to God’s plan or will, we will surely miss out.

Proverbs 3: 5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

Proverbs 4: 5-7 Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

2 Nephi 9: 28 O that cunning plan of the evil one! O the vainness, and the frailties, and the foolishness of men! When they are learned they think they are wise, and they hearken not unto the counsel of God, for they set it aside, supposing they know of themselves, wherefore, their wisdom is foolishness and it profiteth them not. And they shall perish. 29 But to be learned is good if they hearken unto the counsels of God.

Proverbs 3: 13-14 Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, for the gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold.

Proverbs 8: 11 For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.
