Many times, when we ask God for needed things,
it is often our neighbor or friend who brings.
When I plead for help to God about a concern or care,
it is often a brother or sister He sends to be there.
Sometimes when I pay attention, listen closely with real intent,
I can hear Him tell me which friend to visit and a hand to lend.
Sometimes all is needed is a listening ear, a kind word to say,
to lift a neighbor and brighten their day.
We are the hands of God and so must act well the part;
it is never too late to get going, to make a fresh start.
If we seek each day to find someone in need,
our petition and prayer will lead us, if the Spirit we try to heed.
He blesses us in ways too many to count or comprehend,
He delivers these gifts directly or sometimes through a friend.
He has saved us from sin and error of every kind,
He asks us to do the same, in our own way, for all of mankind.

"A story is told that during the bombing of a city in World War II, a large statue of Jesus Christ was severely damaged. When the townspeople found the statue among the rubble, they mourned because it had been a beloved symbol of their faith and of God’s presence in their lives. Experts were able to repair most of the statue, but its hands had been damaged so severely that they could not be restored. Some suggested that
they hire a sculptor to make new hands, but others wanted to leave it as it was—a permanent reminder of the tragedy of war. Ultimately, the statue remained without hands. However, the people of the city added on the base of the statue of Jesus Christ a sign with these words: 'You are my hands'." (Dieter F. Uchtdorf, "You Are My Hands")
“We are the Lord’s hands here upon the earth, with the mandate to serve and to lift His children. He is dependent upon each of us” (President Thomas S. Monson, “What Have I Done for Someone Today?” Ensign, Nov. 2009, 86).
