The disciples were troubled and gripped by fear.
Jesus reassured them and encouraged them to “be of good cheer”.
Peter’s request was granted to come out on the water
by the one who they considered the Holy Messiah and Savior.
The former fisherman stepped over the side of the boat.
He put his feet on the water and standing up, he began to float.
The senior apostle kept his eyes on Christ as he walked forward
and then his attention was diverted by the boisterous wind and waves that towered.
Fear overcame faith in that instant
and then Peter began to sink.
“Lord, save me”,
was Peter’s desperate plea.
The Master reached out and held him firm
and asked Peter why he would have doubt in Him.
This is a question for all of us who row in the same boat:
“O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?”
When our faith is tested, Christ is there with outstretched arms.
He will not let us sink if we turn to Him for help with our trials and problems.
When our faith wavers and fear takes control,
turning to Jesus is the best thing for our soul.
When we recognize that our very existence depends on heavenly grace,
we will be sustained by God and His divine benevolence.
We may not walk on water or live trouble-free,
but our faith and trust in Christ can lift us up to the place where we should be.

Matthew 14:26-31 And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
