Tree of Life

Updated: Dec 1, 2021

(1 Nephi Chapters 8, 11 and 12)

Even through the heavy mist of darkness, I can see the light.

The radiance of the tree shines through, glorious and bright.

The light and love of God entreats and calls to me.

I look and see the fruit of this most exquisite tree.

A fountain of living water, so pure and clear,

Flows by the tree and beacons me near.

A narrow path is there before me, a rod of iron at my side.

The iron rod steadies me and instantly my fears subside.

I grasp the rod with all my might, with all my soul.

I press forward, holding firm and fast, my eyes ever on my goal.

I often stumble and struggle to hold on tight,

But no obstacle can deter me, I keep the prize always in my sight.

As I look around me, I see others lose their way.

The vain cares and desires of the world would attract them on this day.

A large and spacious building appeared and floated in the air.

It surprised me to see how many souls were eager to dwell there.

A river of filthy water runs along the path I tread.

There I saw the kind of misery that all should avoid and dread.

Reaching the tree were others who had gone before.

They arrived at their destination, but at the last the fruit they did ignore.

Some partook of the fruit and then fell away.

Put to shame by others mocking and enticing them to stray.

At last I arrived at that place I so desired; I stood there, being so amazed.

I knew that this must be like heaven, being with my God – I sing His praise!

The fruit was delicious and filled my soul with joy beyond compare.

I could feel the embrace and love of God, his arms holding me there.

The journey was not easy, but the effort was well worth the price.

O how grateful I am to have endured; the feeling so rewarding and so very nice!

I chose wisely the path that leads the better way.

To be with God and my family is beyond description, more wonderful than any words I can say.

Brothers and sisters that I so love, chose a different route.

God, who desires their return, will give other chances to them, I have no doubt.

The love of God and that of His Son, the most desirable things of all.

Are the most joyous to the soul, and to His creatures both great and small.
