When we look around us we can easily see,
those who keep on going regardless of the difficulty.
It’s to those who fit this description that this poem is dedicated.
You are admired for living a life that can’t be easily replicated.
Perseverance is a multi-faceted gem that takes on many dimensions -
it takes the form of persistent effort to accomplish any task or take on any challenging situation.
Perhaps in simple terms, it means “don’t give up the fight”,
while to others it is “keep trying until you get it right”.
Your goals are fixed and your values are sure and set,
no obstacle will deter you from what you want to honorably get.
Your actions are frequently aided by a higher power,
with abounding faith in a higher purpose for living each minute and hour.
You inspire me to do better when I see your years of devotion –
I know I can carry-on because I know you did it with such honest ambition.
When trials come, you just shift gears and go around,
making adjustments, moving onward and rarely slowing down.
Toward the end your gait is slower and your progress wobbly and a wee bit slow,
but you continue to forge ahead through the headwinds, rain or snow.
Hard work and commitment can propel us through the refining fire,
even if we are not gifted with the level of intelligence or talents we desire.
There is much to be said about willpower and clear vision -
so much can be accomplished with steady determination.
So keep on going and I will try to keep up,
I will try to walk in your shadow and follow in your footsteps.
I know I can count on you just like the northern star -
thank you for your example; encouraged by your actions, I know I can go just as far.
