The Way Back Home

Updated: Dec 1, 2021

(Laws, principles, ordinances, covenants, the doctrine of Christ)

On my way back home, from a life of living on this mortal sphere,

I discovered the meaning and purpose for my time spent here.

I found the way, the truth and the life,

as I sought to find God and His Son, Jesus Christ.

I found true joy and happiness in living as they taught,

doing good and serving others are the things that I sought.

To love God and my neighbor are the most important things for man,

essential principles in God’s eternal plan.

Love is the key that unlocks the doors,

to peace and contentment and life evermore.

Along way I came to know grief, pain and despair,

but found comfort knowing God was always there.

My trials made me stronger and better able to climb the slope so steep,

buffeted by the winds of adversity, my roots now run deep.

The refining fire purged me from error and sin,

The choices between best, better and good I did win.

As I laid my burdens at His feet,

my cares were lifted, made lighter and even sweet.

As I traveled though mortal life and traversed every slippery slope,

I clung to the thought “I can’t give up hope”.

I sought to follow the better way,

endowed with power, knowledge and the desire not to stray.

The promises I made and tried to keep,

changed me into a disciple of Christ, one of his beloved sheep.

The Lord is my shepherd, with his care I shall not want,

green pastures I will find and cool water my font.

“I want to be like Jesus” is my eternal theme,

A desire and goal inspired by this great loving being.

The thought of everlasting salvation makes me rejoice,

I now can return home because of my ultimate choice.

The love that binds my family here will continue beyond,

because of the sealing power that transcends mortal bounds.

Death is only a door, a portal to the next glorious phase,

it’s sting passed by because of the life that Jesus gave.

Every weary mile was truly worth the race,

I went the distance because of the thought of His embrace.

“Well done, thou good and faithful servant” are the words I long to hear,

as I kneel at his feet and receive his welcome there.

“I never told you it would be easy” I heard him say with a smile,

“I only told you that it would be worthwhile”

Home at last, I cry with delight,

I have overcome, passed the test and fought the good fight.
