Patriots and Pioneers

Can we grasp the faith and courage of the patriots and pioneers -

those seeking a better life while pushing aside their personal comforts and fears?

Where would we be today if they had not stepped up to the plate,

putting their lives and livelihoods in jeopardy so we may enjoy a kinder fate?

What does it mean to be a contributing denizen of this singular nation -

where we believe that opportunities should be available for every person?

The constitution promotes a guiding principle that all people are created equally,

but it is up to all of us to ensure lasting human equality and dignity.

In this world where moral standards are discarded like so much unwanted trash,

we should support true principles for better living that often are relegated to the past.

Values of chastity and virtue should not be outmoded - but be preserved,

even in a world where pernicious content abounds and ethical principles are obscured.

The concepts of beneficial commerce, free enterprise and conscious capitalism

should exist to preserve individual private self-actualization.

Honest work should continue to be enshrined as the basis for self-worth and prosperity.

Respect, civility and kindness for each other should be the foundation of our humanity.

The true heroes of our day are those who stand for what is right,

who make our world better with their efforts to relieve any insidious human plight.

We can honor our ancestors who have gone before,

when we promote the ideals of their generation that we should still seek to secure.

The teachings of the Master should be always first and foremost in our personal constitution,

that love and care for one another should be our natural automatic inclination.

All good things come from this heavenly source,

our forbearers acknowledged His hand in all things in their daily course.

Today we are in need of patriots and pioneers just as in the past -

these are the men and women who stand up for righteous values that we need to hold fast.
