I Was. Now I Am

Updated: Jan 2, 2022

As God looks on me,

He sees not only what I once was, but what I can yet be.

He does not define me by my past as others may do,

only the present and the future are important to Him, as it should be to me and you.

What and where we are now is just a transitory moment in time,

what we can become is really the point of our eternal upward climb.

When we look on others, like God always does, we too can attempt to see

By looking past flaws and imperfections we no longer follow the path of impurity .

“Whosoever is without sin, let him cast the first stone”,

is counsel from the Master who reminds us of our own bad behavior -

that which He will not condone.

When we live in houses made with transparent glass,

we should not delight in casting destructive objects.

The Savior taught that removing a mote from the eye of a friend,

is not so easy to do with a beam blocking our obstructed vision.

Seeking the welfare of others and trying to view the big picture,

is what the Son of God desires for us and is expressed in almost every verse of scripture.

There is perhaps no more sobering thought than that which is written:

“the judgment we make may be the same judgment we may be given” (Matthew 7:1-2)

No wonder one of the greatest commandments of all,

is to love others and treat others with respect no matter how far a person has

come to fall.

Christ taught plainly to every sister and brother:

his followers can be distinguished by the love they have for one other.

To be better at the end than at the beginning is what progression of character is all about,

it takes a lifetime of learning from our mistakes to become more centered and devout.

When sore repentance is needed, God is there to see us through it,

our sinning is never beyond his ability to forgive and renew us.

Man’s eternal progression is His work and His glory -

He wants us to keep moving forward, always trying to improve and enjoy the journey.

If our perspective becomes true, so that we can see things the way they really are,

we will begin to see as God sees and thus be a blessing to every friend and neighbor.
