Be True to the Two

Updated: Dec 1, 2021

(Matthew 22: 36, Luke 10:25)

“What is the great commandment in the law”?, was the question that was posed,

by the lawyer who came tempting, dressed in expensive clothes.

“What shall I do to inherit eternal life”? was the inquiry that was made,

by another lawyer, at another time and day.

Do two things well and your salvation is insured and your eternal health,

“Love God with all your heart, mind and soul and love thy neighbor as thyself”.

Upon these two all the law and the prophets hang;

it is therefore essential to pay closer attention to what Jesus was saying.

Of all the laws and commandments, these two reign supreme,

if we live these higher laws, our eternal welfare they will bring.

What does it mean to love God with all of your heart and mind?;

could it mean to seek daily to know Him, and then to find?

To love one another more than love of self,

is the greatest conquest man can ever know, in and of itself.

While there are no other greater laws than these two,

there are many other ways to live we must know and do.

“Worship nature, not God” was a message I recently saw displayed,

the logic of which escapes me, the theme so well accepted, I am afraid.

Without God, nature does not exist, no life can live;

God is the reason everything has it’s purpose and with meaning can give.

“Love nature and not God” is such a contradictory thought,

for nature is the expression of God’s love for which all men have sought.

There is no separation between loving God, his creations, women and men,

when we love and respect all his handiwork, it is mankind that will win.

This is the lesson that I think Jesus taught,

when you love and serve God and your fellowman, your eternal existence is begot.

Nature rejoices and so can we too,

when we come to love God and to our neighbors we are true.
