A New Day

Updated: Jan 10, 2022

See John 8

The woman looked intently into the eyes of this stranger.

All she could see was compassion and love and not a hint of danger.

He had just written in the sand at his feet

and then looked up and spoke these words, to her so sweet:

“Woman, where are those thine accusers – hath no man condemned thee?”

“Go thy way and sin no more, neither do I condemn thee”.

The stones had been dropped and left behind,

none were ready to cast them - thoughts to destroy her no longer inclined.

Their conscience had convicted them when their own sins they considered –

the persecutors left in silence, their actions rightly hindered.

The last words she recalled from her rescuer are written for us, most importantly:

“I am the light of the world” as well as: “the Father hath sent me”.

As she returned to her home, she rejoiced to have been set free,

not only from the hands that held her, but from sins that beset her so easily.

She had received a gift from God she knew in her heart.

Her benefactor had helped others to see what righteous judgement is all about.

This was like a new day to her, she could start all over, her past life flee.

She resolved that her previous actions would not determine her future destiny.

Everyone, everywhere makes mistakes seen and unseen by physical eyes –

all have need to repent from bad behavior, deceit and lies.

We all have motes and beams that block our vision -

they cloud our judgement and impede good reason.

When we are tempted to judge others and pick up a stone,

let us remember that the judgement that matters most is that from God alone.

In the end, at the end of the day,

we will each stand before Him and want Him to say:

“Well done, my good and faithful servant, enter into my rest -

all that I have is yours - you have passed the mortal test”
